Mrs Angela Hobbs and Mrs Vanesa Pillay, PhD students on the NIH Millenium Chronic Disease Leadership Programme were invited to the Hatter Institute to give talks on their research projects. Mrs Hobbs gave an interesting talk on Gestational diabetes in black South African women. Mrs Pillay covered the topic of Identifying Genetic markers of Obesity Risk in a South African Black Population.

Staff: Assoc Prof Sandrine Lecour is currently at the XXI ISHR World Congress 2013 in San Diego, Ca, USA and will be traveling to Sydney,Australia upon her return to Cape Town.

Ms Aqeela Imamdien is currently in London, UK presenting a poster at the IUPS conference 2013.
Ms Zulfah Albertyn has recently returned from a site visit in Soweto, JHB as part of her PhD project. She will be traveling to Melbourne, Australia to visit the Baker IDI as part of her PhD training.
Mr Gerald Maarman will be traveling to the ECCPS (Excellence Cluster CardioPulmonary System) at The University of Giessen, Germany as part of his PhD training.
Professor Karen Sliwa-Hahnle was named as a finalist in two categories of the prestigious 2012/13 National Science and Technology Forum-BHP Billiton awards.
The Hatter Institute was well represented at the 11th Pan African Society of Cardiology Meeting which took place in Dakar, Senegal from 15-20 May 2013 with the participation of Prof Karen Sliwa, and several staff and students from HICRA attending. Mr Gerald Maarman (PhD student) and Ms Sandra Petorius both gave an oral presentation and Dr Kim Lamont and Dr Kemi Tibazarwa presented posters.
